(KNSI) — A GoFundMe has been launched for a Monticello family following a fatal accident in South Dakota.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says on Monday, October 12th, a family was traveling east on Interstate 90 near Kimball, South Dakota, when a wheel detached from a trailer being pulled westbound. The wheel crossed the center median and slammed into their minivan. The GoFundMe says the wheel broke the windshield and tore through the roof, killing 31-year-old Stephen Clayton and their three-year-old son, David.
His wife, 24-year-old Katie Clayton, who is pregnant, was airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls and has undergone reconstructive surgery for fractures to her face and jaw, according to the GoFundMe.
Their 11-month-old son, John, was not seriously injured, and the unborn baby is OK.
