(KNSI) – The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Stearns County and northeastern Pope County until 5:15 p.m. Friday.

The warning was issued at 4:19 p.m. At that time, a severe thunderstorm was located eight miles east of Glenwood, or 16 miles southeast of Alexandria, moving southeast at 15 mph.

Forecasters say the storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Locations in the storm’s path include Sauk Centre, Brooten, Villard, Westport, Grove Lake, Sedan and Padua, as well as the Glenwood and Sauk Centre airports.

The Weather Service advises people in the warned area to seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows.
