(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Education is supporting 180 schools and community organizations providing meals and snacks at more than 715 meal sites across Minnesota this summer through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program.
The Summer Food Service Program is a federal nutrition program funded by the USDA and administered by MDE. The program provides food to children ages 18 and younger and to those older than 18 with mental or physical disabilities who participate in school programs. Most summer meal sites can offer up to two meals per child per day, chosen from breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.
Families can find summer meal sites by downloading the free Meals for Kids app to a phone or other device, by visiting the site map or participation report, or by using the Summer Meals and Snacks for Kids Site Finder tool.
By phone, users can call the 211 Hotline or the Minnesota Food HelpLine at 1-888-711-1151, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
