(KNSI) — Police in Cloquet are releasing more information about a shooting that left three people, including the suspected gunman, dead.

Authorities said a 22-year-old woman who was a clerk at the Super 8 and a 35-year-old man from Deer River were both killed. The man was found in a car in the parking lot, and he had been shot “multiple times,” according to Police Chief Derek Randall. The alleged shooter was a 32-year-old man from Ramsey. He fled the motel after the shooting and killed himself outside.

There is still no motive, but the suspect and the male were both guests. Investigators have not said if there are any connections between the three.

Chief Randall gave a news conference Tuesday morning laying out the chilling details.

He said an employee called 911 at 6:40 p.m. and told the dispatcher they found a fellow worker who looked like she had been attacked. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where she was pronounced dead.

The chief said it appeared to be an active shooter situation and issued a shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area before they found the man dead with a gun near his body. The order was lifted less than two hours later after surveillance footage showed he was the shooter.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting.
