(KNSI) – A Waite Park police officer and a semi driver are OK after another driver went through a red light, causing a crash Sunday afternoon.
According to the Waite Park Police Department, an officer was stopped at the intersection of 2nd Avenue South and 2nd Street South at about 5:45, when the officer saw a Subaru Outback, which was stopped at the red light, go through the intersection while the light was still red. The Subaru was then hit on the passenger side by an oncoming semi, spinning the Outback around and sending it crashing into the front end of a Waite Park squad car also stopped at the red light.
The driver of the Subaru, 60-year-old Lynn McClelland of St. Cloud, suffered minor injuries. She was given a ticket for running the red light. A six-year-old girl in the Subaru also suffered minor injuries.
The 66-year-old driver of the semi, John Snyder of Milaca, was not hurt. The squad car sustained minor damage.
