(KNSI) – Bidding is open this week for the Tri-County Humane Society’s annual Wine, Kibbles and Bids silent auction fundraiser. Due to COVID-19, the silent auction is again taking a virtual format.

Special events coordinator Angela Mundis said last year, TCHS’s first virtual iteration of Wine, Kibbles and Bids brought in $18,000, a figure the shelter is hoping to match in 2021. As of 1 p.m. Monday, the online auction had already raised more than $14,000. Mundis says those funds help the shelter by offsetting the cost of medicines and medical procedures for their animals.

“It’s about between $25 and $100 to spay or neuter an animal that comes in,” Mundis said. “Something like $1,000 would cover our medications for a month at the shelter, cover our electrical bill for a month at the shelter.”

Many of the items up for auction were donated by community members. Pieces of art, gift certificates, cat and dog toys, booze and Minnesota Vikings memorabilia are all up for grabs.

Mundis said there are multiple ways to support TCHS during the fundraiser.

“Bid in our auction, make a donation on our website and even, you know, a really simple one is when you see our sponsors, patronize those sponsors and tell them you saw that they were a sponsor for our event and that you appreciate it,” Mundis said.

The auction ends Friday at 6 p.m. In the final hour of bidding, Mundis says TCHS will hold a closing ceremony.

“Facebook will be where we’ll do our wrap-up on April 30th,” she said. “[We’ll] thank our sponsors, we’ll do some presentations, there’ll be a message from our executive director. All of that will be on our event on Facebook.”
