(KNSI) – Two top city officials from Sartell got to make the pitch for a high-priority bonding project to Governor Walz in person this week.
The City of Sartell Facebook page says Mayor Ryan Fitzhum and Administrator Anna Gruber were invited to the governor’s office at the Minnesota State Capitol on Tuesday to discuss their vision for a Central Minnesota Healthcare Hub. The plan would build up roads, utility infrastructure, and new housing, both residential and multi-family, along the border with St. Cloud.
It recognizes the expansion at CentraCare Plaza and the new University of Minnesota Medical School CentraCare Regional Campus, but that is only the tip of the iceberg in the area. CentraCare – Sauk Crossing is the home for the eye center and a full-service family medicine clinic. Outside of CentraCare, orthopedics, radiology, dentistry, and a slew of other healthcare-related practices and businesses have taken root in that part of the city in recent years.
With Niron Magnetics and DeZURIK anchoring manufacturing and industrial opportunities, healthcare is helping diversify the city’s economy and gradually help it grow beyond its reputation as a bedroom community.
