(KNSI) — Two local police departments are among those who captured some of the most dangerous drivers on the roads during summer enforcement campaigns.

According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Waite Park police saw two drivers racing at speeds of more than 100 miles an hour. Once stopped, one of the drivers admitted to what they were doing. They were arrested for violating a driving permit and careless driving.

Meanwhile, Cold Spring-Richmond police encountered a situation with speeding motorcycles. Officers ticketed two riders who were clocked going 97 miles an hour in a 65 mile zone. When questioned, both claimed they had no idea how fast they were traveling and said they couldn’t see their speedometers.

These incidents were part of Minnesota’s broader summer safety campaign that ran from Memorial Day through Labor Day, known as the state’s 100 deadliest days. Nearly 300 law enforcement agencies patrolled roads statewide in a coordinated effort to crack down on speeding, impaired driving and Move Over Law violations.
