(KNSI) – Bragging rights are on the line as St. Cloud firefighters and police officers exchange their boots and badges for bats and balls during the first annual Guns ‘N Hoses Softball Game.
The local heroes will take to the diamond on Monday, September 8th, at the Municipal Athletic Complex’s Joe Faber Field. St. Cloud Fire Marshal Brian Kiffmeyer explained there will be things for spectators to do before stepping through the turnstiles. “You’ll get to see our fire trucks and all kinds of stuff out in the parking lot at 5:00 p.m. beforehand. And it’s just a way to get the community together. And then, at 6:00, a softball game where our firefighters will be battling police officers.”
Kiffmeyer says the two sides are usually working together, but on that night, they’ll be rivals. “Although they might be on separate teams during the softball game, we do work together, and it is all just friendly camaraderie to showcase public safety at its finest.”
The Police Benefit Association and the St. Cloud Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 464 are putting together the matchup.
