(KNSI) – St. Cloud was eliminated from the Northwoods League playoffs Tuesday night in the deciding game of the opening round.
The Rox fell 10-4 to the Mankato MoonDogs at Joe Faber Field. They end the year with a first half championship in the Great Plains West division and an overall record of 48-24, or .667 winning percentage.
In the postseason rubber match, the MoonDogs opened the scoring, but they had to be patient. Starter Jaron Bleeker got the Rox off to a good start on the mound, retiring Mankato in order in the top of the first.
Mankato was able to push its lead to 3-0 by the bottom of the third, but St. Cloud refused to go away. Joshua Dykhoff blasted a two-run homer to make it 3-2. It was the first of two homers from Dykhoff in the game. He also went deep in the sixth. The Rox would tack on another run in the seventh due to the speedy baserunning of Tanner Recchio.
It wasn’t enough to take down Mankato, though. The MoonDogs were only 15-21 in the first half but caught fire late in the summer. Mankato plays Duluth Wednesday for a spot in the Northwoods League championship game.
