(KNSI) – The St. Cloud State Women’s Volleyball Team reaches new heights.
For the first time ever, the program is ranked second in the country. The American Volleyball Coaches Association released its weekly poll on Monday afternoon.
The Huskies are nipping at the heels of top-ranked Ferris State. The Big Rapids, Michigan, university remains undefeated at 24-0. Last week’s number one team, Metropolitan State University – Denver, lost over the weekend, dropping them to fourth.
St. Cloud State is receiving three first-place votes compared to Ferris’s 40. Number three, Cal Poly Pomona, a team SCSU lost to in the opening match of the season, has two nods for the top spot. SCSU is 21-2 overall and hasn’t been defeated since the second weekend of the season.
They are 15-0 in the Northern Sun, St. Cloud’s best conference start ever, and have a 17-match winning streak. The Huskies have a 1.5-game lead on Concordia-St. Paul. The two teams meet on Saturday.
If the Huskies win, they will wrap up the top seed in the conference tournament. It would also go a long way towards securing a top seed in the Central Region for the NCAA Tournament, possibly setting up three home matches for the Huskies in the Big Dance.
