(KNSI) – The St. John’s Prep girls’ cross-country team is set to make its first state meet appearance since 1993.

The squad finished in second place at the Section 5A Cross-Country Championship in Hinckley last week. They were led by sophomore Margaret Duffy, who took first individually. Duffy improved to a number 15 ranking for Minnesota Class A.

Head Coach Lance Nydeen says, “The girls’ team was focused and determined to prove they are true contenders. Our runners fought each meter of the Hinckley race with grit, determination, and trust in their ability, and that of their teammates!”

In addition to Duffy, the roster is rounded out by senior Sylvie Bechtold, sophomore Sofia Pauly, and freshmen Claudia Ruzanic, Lauren Lenzmeier, Ellen Bechtold, and Brooke Schmidt.

There was also plenty to be proud of on the boys’ side. Eighth grader Connor McMahon has advanced to the state meet after finishing seventh in Section 5A.
