(KNSI) – Area Sons of Norway chapters and the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota will host their annual Barneløpet on Sunday.
Registration is same-day, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Member Frank Haynes says if the forecast holds and trail conditions remain in good shape, turnout should be high.
“I would expect that we’re going to have over a hundred children show up. And because we break the races down into age groups, that’s not a problem.”
The event is scheduled for Riverside Park on St. Cloud’s southeast side. Barneløpet translates from Norwegian to “kid’s race.” It is open to children ages three to 13. Cross-country ski rentals are available. There is no cost.
Haynes says it is a great way to introduce others to the club and get them involved in its other activities.
“We meet about seven times a year. We meet at the library in the Mississippi Room.”
The St. Cloud chapter is called Trollheim, meaning home of the trolls. More information about the group can be found here.
Attendees of the Barneløpet will be introduced to some of that culture through hot chocolate and Norwegian treats. Also helping out are the Anoka and Minneapolis lodges.
