(KNSI) – Officials with Stearns County say they are asking the public to use alternative ways to conduct business with the license centers due to long lines at drive-thrus and an increase in phone calls while the county’s doors are closed to walk-in traffic.

People are asked to make appointments for driver’s license renewals, title transfers, and passports. Appointments can be set up to two weeks out on the county’s website.

Tab renewal, boat, ATV and snowmobile renewal, marriage licenses, and marriage certificates can all be done by mail, online, or drop box. If people prefer, these can also be filed in the drive-thru or by phone.

Birth and death certificates, ordination filings, notary filings, and property tax payments can all be taken care of online, by mail, or drop box. They can also be taken care of in the drive-thru.

Title transfers, driver’s license self-certifications, handicapped parking applications, and medical card copies can be taken care of by mail or dropbox, but people can also use the drive-thru.

Drive-thru hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., but officials say due to the high traffic volume, people have to be in line by 3:00 p.m. to be served. The drive-thru address is:

3301 County Road 138

Waite Park, MN 56387

Drop boxes are located at the entrances of the downtown Stearns County Administration Center and the Waite Park Service Center.

To use the mail-in option, the address is:

705 Courthouse Square

St. Cloud, MN 56303

The virtual license center can be found online by clicking here.
