(KNSI) – St. Cloud drivers should brace for a busy stretch of road work starting this week, with one short-term traffic shift and two major neighborhood construction projects kicking off over the next eight days.

The first disruption arrives on Thursday, when crews from Xcel Energy will narrow 13th Street North between 8th and 9th Avenues North for utility work. The lane shift runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30th. Traffic will still move in both directions through the area, but drivers are being asked to slow down and stay alert.

The bigger changes start Monday, May 4th, when the city’s Pan Park Neighborhood Improvements Phase 5 project gets underway, weather permitting.

Several streets in the Pan Park area will close to through traffic and stay closed through mid-October:

29th Avenue North between 10th and 12th Streets North
28th Avenue North between 10th and 12th Streets North
27th Avenue North between 11th and 12th Streets North
26th Avenue North between 11th and 12th Streets North
11th Street North between 27th and 29th Avenues North

The City Engineer’s Office says no detour will be posted for those closures. Residents who live inside the work zone will still be able to reach their homes but are being asked to use caution.

Also on May 4th, 12th Street North will close between 25th and 29th Avenues North. That stretch is expected to reopen by mid-June. Unlike the neighborhood closures, this one will have posted detours, and the city is warning of potential traffic delays.

One piece of good news for Pan Park drivers: 10th Street North will stay open for now. City officials say improvements are planned for that road as well, but a separate notice will go out before any closure.
