(KNSI) – The National Weather Service says Minnesota may get its first winter storm of 2021 this week.

Forecasters say the storm will start as rain and freezing rain overnight in western Minnesota and then change to all snow Thursday. Snow will continue to fall through the day Thursday and into Friday. Gusty northwest winds will move in behind the system and bring some travel impacts along with them.

How much of a mixed bag of rain, freezing rain, and snow is still unclear. If the temps stay on the warm side, that will cut down on the amount of snow we get on the back end of the system.

As of 7:00 Wednesday morning, there have been no winter weather warnings posted for central Minnesota.
