(KNSI) – Saint Cloud will take time to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this weekend.

The event will be held on Sunday in downtown St. Cloud in front of the police department at 5:00 p.m. Mayor Dave Kleis recalls those who lost their lives on that day 21 years ago.

“Nearly 3,000 people lost their life. Innocent individuals who were just going to work that day or traveling that day and included in that group were a number of firefighters, police officers and EMS folks. Because they were doing their jobs, they lost their lives.”

The Day of Remembrance will also honor the men and women of the armed forces.

“And also the military, the folks who not only in the many years after that day have lost their lives or have been injured on the Global War on Terrorism. So please take some time out and pause this Sunday, September 11th.”

All members of the public are encouraged to attend the gathering to show their support.

Sunday marks the 21 years since Islamic extremists hijacked commercial airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a farm field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back.
