(KNSI) – COVID-19 cases are on the decline, from a rate of over 2,000 per day in early May to about 900 now. Officials expect it to come back in the fall and want to conserve testing resources until that time comes.
The Minnesota Department of Health is closing down several sites in smaller cities, including Bemidji, Morris, and Winona. It will continue operations at the busiest locations, with many transitioning to test-and-treat facilities.
St. Cloud will stay open and remain committed to testing only. While home kits and other detection methods exist, public health officials say they are not considered confirmed cases. Individuals who suspect they may have COVID-19 are required to use sites like the St. Cloud office to officially change their case status from probable to confirmed.
