(KNSI) – 43-year-old James Stanley will be facing a ticket, but at least he still has his life. The St. Cloud man climbed a restricted granite pile between Quarry 12 and Quarry 13 on Saturday, before falling ill with heat exhaustion.
Unable to walk or even stand, all Stanley could do was yell for help. Responding to the emergency just after 1:30 p.m. were fire departments from Waite Park, St. Joseph, and St. Cloud, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Recreational Staff, and Mayo Ambulance.
Personnel had to administer treatment to rehydrate Stanley while also performing a high-angle technical rope rescue to get him down from the bluff. Once Stanley was back at ground level, he was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for further evaluation.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office warns people to avoid the rock piles at Quarry Park. They are off-limits and anyone found trespassing on them will be ticketed.
