(KNSI) – For the first time since it began in 2011, the Adopt a Classroom program in St. Cloud Area School District 742 has matched every teacher who applied with a donor. This year, 264 teachers are sharing $69,000 for their classrooms.
The program is run by the Local Education & Activities Foundation, better known as LEAF 742, the district’s education foundation. Donors give $250 or more to support a classroom, and 100% of each donation goes to teachers. That money pays for materials, supplies and learning experiences for students, and this year’s total works out to about $261 per teacher.
At Kennedy Community School, science teacher Alissa Keil says the money pays for hands-on experiences that get students curious and help them picture themselves as future scientists, engineers and problem solvers. She told donors they’re investing in more than classroom materials, they’re also investing in students’ confidence and futures.
LEAF credits individuals, businesses and community organizations for this year’s success. The foundation raises money through donations and grants to give students more access to academics, activities, arts and athletics.
