(KNSI) – A group of seniors will spend the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance thanking the Sartell Police Department and leaving officers something to hand out on their hardest calls.
Members of AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) will present the department with a basket of treats Friday morning, along with a collection of comfort items officers can keep in their squads. Those include small teddy bears for children caught up in a call and project packs for seniors who need something to hold onto during a difficult moment.
Program coordinator Tauna Quimby organized the event. The presentation is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Sartell Police Department, 501 Pinecone Road South.
RSVP is sponsored by the City of St. Cloud and serves residents age 55 and older living in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright counties. The program had 1,200 active volunteers last year who logged 140,000 hours at 160 different human service agencies.
