(KNSI) – A 64-year-old motorcyclist from Albany died Friday after he missed a curve and crashed.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call just before noon on September 4th for an accident on County Road 50 in Wakefield Township, about a mile north of Cold Spring.
Deputies say Stephen Joseph Gretsch was riding south with two other motorcyclists. As the group entered the curve near Glenwood Road, Gretsch continued straight, left the roadway and went into the southbound ditch. The motorcycle also struck a fiber-optic cable box and a utility pole.
Deputies say damage to the motorcycle was consistent with it rolling during the crash.
Gretsch was not wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff’s office. Lifesaving measures were taken, but he died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
