(KNSI) – Back to school time for new college students can mean an introduction to many new experiences in adult life. One of them may be learning to deal with credit. Credit card companies are happy to recruit new customers.
Shannon Doyle is the program director for partnerships and financial education for LSS Financial Counseling and says don’t be too quick to run up the credit, “Only applying for a credit card as you need it. That can help people build their credit scores, but also be really intentional about what type of credit card they’re using.” Every new credit card application can lower a person’s credit score. On time payments help to build credit scores.
Doyle also recommends starting financial education young, teaching sharing, saving and spending with an allowance.
