(KNSI) – Benton County Commissioner Jared Gapinski has won the Republican primary for Minnesota Senate District 13.

Gapinski took 6,449 votes to Aaron Brutger’s 3,341 in unofficial results posted Tuesday night, finishing with 65.87% to Brutger’s 34.13%.

Gapinski advances to the November 3rd general election against DFL candidate Trent Dilks, who was unopposed in his primary.

The seat is open this year. Republican Jeff Howe of Rockville, who has held the seat since 2018, is retiring after two terms. The district takes in Sartell, Albany, Cold Spring, Avon, Holdingford and part of Sauk Rapids.

A combined 14,429 votes were cast in the two primaries. The Secretary of State’s office listed 59,628 registered voters in the district as of 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Results remain unofficial until canvassing boards certify them.
