(KNSI) – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has won the Democratic-Farmer-Labor primary for Minnesota governor, advancing to a November general election matchup as she seeks to replace outgoing Governor Tim Walz.
The Associated Press called the race at 8:26 p.m. With 25.12% of precincts reporting, Klobuchar had 141,886 votes, or 91.12%.
Klobuchar’s running mate is Ben Schierer, the former mayor of Fergus Falls, who initially filed for state auditor before joining the ticket.
She entered the race after Walz announced he would not seek a third term, and consolidated party support early. Klobuchar won roughly 72% of the DFL caucus straw poll on February 3rd and took the party endorsement at the DFL State Convention in Rochester on May 29th, though the endorsement was not by acclamation. That means the endorsement was approved unanimously by voice vote, with no formal ballot and no opposition
Klobuchar has served in the U.S. Senate since 2007 and won a fourth term in 2024. Her Senate seat is not on the ballot this year.
