(KNSI) – Benton County Emergency Management is inviting residents and stakeholders to review and comment on an updated draft of the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The guide addresses the county’s vulnerability to natural hazards, including tornadoes, windstorms, severe winter storms, flooding, drought, and extreme temperatures. Officials say planning for these disasters helps minimize economic loss and personal hardship when events occur.

Examples include infrastructure projects for areas experiencing flooding, construction of safe rooms in areas vulnerable to tornadoes and severe storms, and burying powerlines susceptible to failure during heavy snow, ice, or wind storms. The plan also aims to ensure timely emergency communication through warning sirens and mass notification systems.

Residents can access the plan PDF and local mitigation action charts on the county website, where they can also submit comments, questions, or feedback through an online form.

The comment period closes December 26th.
