(KNSI) – Great Outdoors Month is just around the corner, bringing a perfect opportunity for some family fun in the sun.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will host Take a Kid Fishing Weekend from Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7. The weekend will allow Minnesotans 16 or older to fish without a license when accompanied by a child 15 or younger. A list of basic rules and locations for fishing around the state can be found here.
This year, the weekend will coincide with a pause in fishing license sales as the DNR transitions data to a new electronic licensing system. During this time, all anglers may fish without a license, while bag limits and other fishing season regulations remain in effect.
Free Park Day will be held on Saturday, June 13. On that day, vehicle permits will not be required to enter any state parks or recreation areas. Many parks will host naturalist-led programs for visitors; these programs are available to find on the DNR website.
Visitors who cannot attend Free Park Day may check out seven-day vehicle permits at participating libraries through the DNR’s State Parks Library Program.
DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen said Great Outdoors Month is a great chance for everyone to get outside and enjoy the outdoor activities and natural benefits Minnesota has to offer.
