(KNSI) — A suspect in the shooting death of an Albertville teen has been sentenced.
Augustus Sirleaf Junior was sentenced to 23 years in prison with 411 days credit for time served. He pleaded guilty to one count of second degree murder in November after prosecutors say he shot 17-year-old Yaseen Johnson during a bogus sale of designer sneakers.
According to the person who drove Johnson to the Plymouth apartment where the shooting happened, Sirleaf and another man got into the SUV with Johnson to facilitate the sale of the shoes. Sirleaf gave one of the shoes to Johnson, and Johnson then gave him half of the money. Johnson said he liked the shoes and wanted to buy them. Sirleaf then asked Johnson to give the shoe back. His friend said Johnson refused, and Sirleaf shot him.
Johnson was found in the SUV with the shoes still in the vehicle.
Madave took a plea deal and will be sentenced next week.
