(KNSI) — It took just 90 minutes into the new year for St. Paul to record its first homicide.
Around 1:30 Monday morning, police were called to a shooting at a home after someone said they wanted a group of people at a gathering there removed from the property. Another caller said they were with someone who had been shot, and they were taking them to the hospital. That person arrived via private vehicle at United Hospital and later died.
No one has been arrested.
It marked a deadly start to an already violent 24 hours.
Two kids, ages ten and 11, were shot inside houses. One of them was shot in the stomach just before midnight. The ten-year-old is in critical condition. Investigators say they believe it was not a random incident and that the shots were fired into the home from someone outside.
Three people were shot on that city’s east side just after midnight. One person had life-threatening injuries. The others, including a teenager, are expected to survive. No one has been arrested.
There were 33 homicides in St. Paul last year.
In Minneapolis, an 11-year-old girl is recovering after she was shot by a stray bullet that went into her bedroom.
