(KNSI) – A woman accused of killing her baby boy has pleaded not guilty.

Fardoussa Omar Abdillahi made a court appearance over Zoom on Monday from the Wright County Jail, where she pleaded not guilty to charges of first and second-degree murder. A pre-trial hearing is set for July 31st. Abdillahi’s lawyer waived her omnibus hearing and speedy trial demand.

Abdillahi has undergone multiple mental health reviews and has been ruled competent to stand trial. Defense attorneys say they will use mental illness as part of her defense.

In February of 2022, she was indicted by a grand jury on the murder charges. If convicted, she could face life in prison. The 28-year-old allegedly used a knife to kill her three-month-old child.

On November 28th, 2021, St. Cloud police responded to a 911 call in the 2900 block of Maine Prairie Road for a missing three-month-old boy. Investigators found the child’s body, multiple knives and bloody bedding in a dumpster behind the woman’s apartment building.
