St. Cloud Woman Charged With Murder of Baby Boy

(KNSI) — A St. Cloud mother has been charged with killing her baby.

Twenty-six-year-old Fardoussa Omar Abdillahi has been charged in Stearns County District Court with second-degree intentional murder.

According to the criminal complaint, a man called 911 on November 28th to report a three-month-old boy missing. The caller told police the mother said she had thrown the baby in a dumpster. Officers responding to the 2900 block of Maine Prairie Road in St. Cloud found Abdillahi crying, along with witnesses who had gathered at the scene.

Those witnesses told police Abdillahi had called her mother, who lives out of state, in the early morning hours and said she had killed her baby. Abdillahi’s mother then called the witnesses, who went to the apartment to look for the child. Unsure at the time whether Abdillahi was telling the truth, the witnesses called police when they couldn’t find him.

The complaint says officers were searching the dumpster when Abdillahi told them she had stabbed the baby, wrapped him in a black plastic garbage bag, and thrown him away. Officers found the baby’s body in the dumpster as she was making that statement. Investigators say they also recovered multiple knives and bedding from the dumpster; the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Laboratory has taken the items for testing.

Abdillahi told investigators she had experienced headaches, worry, and fear since giving birth, and was upset that the baby’s father had denied paternity. She said she was looking at the child and wondering how she would get help when he began crying, and that’s when she stabbed him.

Bail has been set at $2 million without conditions, or $1 million with conditions. Her next court date is December 13th. Prosecutors have filed notice that they’ll seek an aggravated sentence if she’s convicted.
