(KNSI) – Four parks in Sartell will be closed at times this year so work can be done on a road project along the Mississippi River. The temporary closure allows reconstruction of County Road 1/Riverside Avenue and a lift station.

The city council passed a motion on Monday night to close Watab Park and Linear Park on April 18th. Veterans Park will close on June 1st to allow the Memorial Day service on May 30th. Rotary Park will close on August 1st. The parks will stay closed until November 30th and police will be monitoring the parks for trespassers.

The County Road 1 Road Reconstruct project will include:

    • An 8 foot wide paved trail from Sartell Street to 12th Street North.
    • Multiple overlooks of the Mississippi River.
    • A new pedestrian bridge.
    • Improvements to Veterans Park.
    • Reconstruction of the parking lot at Watab Park.
    • Safety measures throughout the area.

Construction will begin this spring. The majority of work will be completed in 2022. The final paving is scheduled for spring 2023.
