(KNSI) – The traditional kickoff to the tourist season in Minnesota will be back but will look different. Planning for the 2022 Minnesota Governor Fishing Opener in May is underway.
Officials say they’re planning a more geographically dispersed, hybrid approach that will celebrate fishing in a variety of ways, rather than focusing on a single host community. Organizers say the pandemic prevented the 12 to 18-month planning period for a traditional, community-led Governor’s Fishing Opener.
Explore Minnesota, the Department of Natural Resources and the Governor’s office is planning to release more information soon.
Last year’s fishing opener was held in Otter Tail County. St. Cloud hosted the event on the Mississippi River in 2017.
