(KNSI) – St. Cloud residents are reminded they have 24 hours to clear sidewalks after it snows.
According to St. Cloud’s Public Works Department, the rule is to help keep people and vehicles safe while traveling in the winter. According to a press release, snow piles on sidewalks create a significant safety issue because they force people to walk on the road.
Residents who don’t have their sidewalks cleared will have the snow and ice removed by city staff, and the property owners will be billed. Unpaid bills will be added to property tax statements.
Property owners are reminded that snow from parking lots and driveways cannot be shoveled or blown on sidewalks. Pushing snow into streets, alleyways or sidewalks is prohibited under city ordinance and subject to an administrative fine of $250 per incident.
Sidewalks must remain cleared the full width for pedestrians, and snow from driveways should be piled in the yard and boulevard.
To report an unshoveled sidewalk, don’t hesitate to contact Public Works at 320-650-2900.
