(KNSI) – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a man after they say he burglarized a garage in Minden Township Friday night.
The sheriff’s office says about 6:15; they were called to the home on the 3600 block of Shadowwood Drive Northeast to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked outside the home. When they arrived, police say they found a 2005 Ford Escape with no one inside but say they did discover a steel rack, several automobile windows, and miscellaneous scrap metal.
While investigating the vehicle and the area, they found the owner, a 57-year-old Sauk Rapids man, near a garage on the property. He told investigators he had permission from the owner to be there and take scrap metal and other items, which had all come from that property. After contacting the property owners, police say the man did not have permission to be there or take anything.
Investigators say the man told them he had previously sold scrap metal to a local business earlier that day. The man admitted he had taken items from this same home on March 10th and turned around and sold them on the 12th.
The man was arrested, and police say when they searched him as part of that arrest, they found three bags containing suspected methamphetamine.
He is being held in the Benton County jail on suspicion of third-degree burglary and 5th-degree drug possession.
