(KNSI) – Former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial has been pushed back two weeks, but Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar tells ABC’s This week, the Senate can hold the trial while still conducting its regular business.
“I thoroughly believe that we can handle this impeachment trial. And just as the American people are doing, juggle what we need to get done to get the Homeland Security Secretary through. We just had an insurrection at the Capitol. Get people confirm for Joe Biden’s cabinet and yes, get people the help that they need.”
We could run [the trial] in the afternoons, confirm the nominees in the morning and pass legislation at night.
Another thing to focus on, Klobuchar says, is producing and administering more coronavirus vaccines.
“I’m so glad that Joe Biden invoked the Defense Production Act so we can get them produced. We can get the distribution center set up.”
The Defense Production Act, created in 1950, allows the president emergency authority to boost the production of supplies needed to help respond to a crisis situation.
President Donald Trump did the same thing following a critical shortage of medical supplies early on in the pandemic.
Trump’s impeachment trial is now set for the week of February 8th.
