(KNSI) – A free online tutoring initiative is now available for St. Cloud area students.

Around Cloud Tutors is a collaboration between several organizations that provides 30-minute online tutoring sessions for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Tutors cover subjects like math, English, science, social studies and Spanish. There are also sessions related to career and college prep for high school students.

Tutoring through Around Cloud Tutors is available in English, Somali and Spanish. The program says more than 30 background-checked tutors have been trained to provide the free sessions, which begin Monday.

“Around Cloud Tutors will not only help students academically, it will also help defeat the isolation and loneliness that all ages are feeling at this time,” said Daniel Larson, vice president of community impact for the United Way. The St. Cloud United Way is one of the program’s partners.

Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation talent director Gail Cruikshank said Around Cloud Tutoring will continue as long as students need it, even after in-person learning resumes for many area schools in the coming weeks.

“A lot of people were asking, how can we ensure St. Cloud area students don’t fall behind in their schooling due to the challenges of COVID-19?” said Cruikshank said. “We learned that a College of St. Benedict student had begun an online tutoring program in Monticello, so we contacted her and these St. Cloud area organizations to explore creation of an expanded version of that program for our region. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s free to all students seeking tutoring.”
