(KNSI) – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has extended and expanded the scope of its air quality alert.

Haze from Canadian wildfire smoke is bringing potentially harmful particulates to the state. The Air Quality Index will be in the red category for northern and central Minnesota until 6:00 a.m. on Friday. That means outdoor activity will be unhealthy for everyone. The alert covers Alexandria, Brainerd, and the St. Cloud area.

The warning is solely due to the effects of wildfire smoke. Ozone is contributing to an alert for the Twin Cities and southeast Minnesota. A link with more details is here.
