(KNSI) – One of Minnesota’s four free park days is coming up this month.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 74 state parks and recreation areas on April 27th to let people explore the outdoors with family and friends. State officials hold the event every few months to give residents a chance to see the state’s beauty in every season.

This time of year, people can find increased animal activity and blooming wildflowers. Participants must stay on trails to avoid erosion and damage to sensitive plants and habitats. Naturalists at some state parks are offering free educational programming that day.

While a vehicle permit is not needed for park admission on free park days, additional fees for camping reservations and equipment rentals still apply. The spring free park day is held on the Saturday after Earth Day.
