(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club will have Chief of Police Jeff Oxton and pastor James Alberts at its next ‘Lesson in Leadership’ meeting.

The special monthly sessions are held at noon to better accommodate parents and others who are interested in the topics being discussed. Morning Optimist Club spokesman Denny Smith says the presentation will be on the Community Policing Agreement.

Smith says St. Cloud Police have drawn praise from around the country because of it. “Our law enforcement in St. Cloud is recognized nationally for the things that they’re doing. In fact, I’ve got it right here in front of me…the Anthony L. Sutin Award. That is given by the U.S. Department of Justice,” he said.

The meeting will be at Pizza Ranch in Waite Park on Wednesday, February 1st. Smith says the ‘Lesson in Leadership’ series is new to the area and occurs once a month. Smith gives the upcoming lineup.

“Next month we have Jim Loria, he’s with the Rox and other things. You have to come and hear his story about his experience with Ronald Reagan when he was in the White House. We’ve got Dan Stoltz the SPIRE [Financial Credit Union] guy. In April, we’re going to have a Jackie Robinson Day celebration.”

Food is available at each ‘Lesson in Leadership’ gathering but it is not provided for free on a complimentary basis. The restaurant is serving a Dutch treat lunch.

The club meets weekly at 7:15 a.m. in Sartell at the Boy Scouts of Central Minnesota office at 1191 Scout Drive. Smith appeared Thursday on the KNSI Morning Show with Bob Hughes.
