(KNSI)- CentraCare is asking St. Cloud for permission to add parking so they can move forward with a major expansion.

According to St. Cloud Planning Commission agenda, CentraCare would like to develop a three-story, 170,000 square foot ambulatory care addition adjacent to a new 60,000 square foot physical rehabilitation building, and an apartment building with 96 units to be used by future medical students attending the new central Minnesota medical campus expected to open in the fall of 2025.

CentraCare Plaza’s campus includes nearly 125 acres of land developable land. Officials say the better than 2,200 parking spaces available currently are not filled to capacity and will shrink the overall number of spots, even with the new development planned. A new ramp would partially offset the off-street parking losses.

There are 2,274 parking Spaces available now, and there will be 2,177 after construction.

A public hearing on the project will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at city hall.
