(KNSI) – St. John’s University students will soon be getting a new residential hall.

Officials with SJU tell KNSI starting on June 1st; the Seton Apartment earth-sheltered homes will be torn down, and construction will begin on the Flynntown Villiage Townhomes and Stumpf Lake Pedestrian Bridge.

The two buildings will be over 45,300 square feet with single bedrooms totaling 94 beds, which is an increase of 14 beds from the Seton Apartments. Most apartments will house six students and also feature a living room, small kitchen area, and two bedrooms on the first floor. There will be four bedrooms on the second floor and a community laundry, and a shared study room for group activity in each building. School officials say there will also be single units for those with medical or emotional needs and will be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The second part of the project is the pedestrian bridge over Stumpf Lake. The construction of the bridge is set to begin after the demolition of the Seton Hall building. The bridge is 12 feet wide and almost as long as a football field. It will come up from a company in the Twin Cities and will be brought in five sections.

None of the projects are expected to disrupt traffic on either County Road 159 or Fruit Farm Road.

Everything is scheduled to be complete by October of 2022.
