(KNSI) – A longtime St. Cloud-area caregiver is opening a store focused on senior home safety and mobility, and he’s marking the occasion with a free public event on preventing falls.

Abdikadir “Abdi” Abdinasir owns Supplying Seniors, located inside the Music Mall at 619 West Saint Germain Street in St. Cloud. The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at the store on Friday, November 13th, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mayor Jake Anderson is expected to attend.

The fall safety event follows on Saturday, November 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Seniors, families and caregivers can watch live demonstrations of products designed to help prevent falls, including PeriChair, Brighton fall-prevention pendants and StairAssist walkers. The event is free and open to the public.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says falls are the top cause of injury for people 65 and older, with about one in four older adults reporting a fall each year. In Minnesota, falls among that age group led to about 12,000 hospitalizations and 30,000 emergency room visits in 2024, according to the state Department of Health.

State health officials say about 70% of fall-related hospitalizations among older Minnesotans from 2016 to 2024 were caused by slipping, tripping or stumbling.
