(KNSI) – A windy bike ride for a couple kids turned into a narrow miss Saturday night in St. Cloud.

St. Cloud Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief of Operations Tony Lorenz relates the story, “At that point they hear a crack of a tree and it sounded like the tree contacted the power pole or power line causing kind of a domino effect. Luckily the children were able to narrowly escape getting hit with the tree.  A few scrapes and bruises from diving off the bicycles but nothing more significant than that.”

The incident resulted in a broken bike and bruises for the kids and power out for a while in the 3600 block of Plum Creek Drive in South St. Cloud. Lorenz says while a near miss is a happy ending, it’s not common, “I’ve been doing this for going on 20 years now and it certainly stands out as something unique for me.”

Lorenz also cautions us all to stay back and be very aware in a situation where power lines may be down.  In this case, he concludes, “sounds like all is well that ends well.”
