Willmar Man Pleads Guilty in 2022 Fentanyl Related Death of 19-Year-Old Woman After Fleeing to Kenya

(KNSI) — A Willmar man who fled to Kenya to avoid prosecution has pleaded guilty to a fentanyl distribution charge connected to the 2022 overdose death of a 19-year-old woman.

Twenty-four-year-old Hudeife Muhamud Mire, also known as “Juice,” pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in a death. Mire was captured in Kajiado, Kenya, more than three years after Samantha Myers’ death, and returned to the U.S. in January.

According to court documents, Mire sold fentanyl pills to 19-year-old Samantha Myers of New London on April 16th, 2022. Myers died from an overdose within minutes of taking one. A month later, police searched Mire’s apartment and seized roughly 180 grams of fentanyl pills and more than $4,000 in cash. State authorities charged him with third-degree murder on May 19th in connection with Myers’ death.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Mire was released on conditions June 1st, but days later booked a one-way ticket and fled the country. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, FBI, and U.S. Marshals Service tracked him down and found him October 31st, 2025, in Kajiado, Kenya. He remained there until January 6th of this year, when federal agents returned him to the U.S. Mire admits he fled to avoid prosecution.

U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen says the plea marks a step toward justice for Myers and her family. FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Dotson credits cooperation with the Kenyan government in securing Mire’s return. BCA Superintendent Drew Evans, along with CEE-VI, Kandiyohi County, and Willmar law enforcement leaders, also acknowledged the multi-agency effort that led to Mire’s capture and prosecution.

Mire faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison and at least four years of supervised release.
