(KNSI) – An 18-year-old man has drowned after falling from his kayak while fishing on Pleasant Lake in Corrina Township on Monday evening.
Deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the lake at 8:18 p.m. Monday, June 1, after receiving a call about a potential drowning. Upon arrival, authorities found an overturned kayak near the public access dock on the north side of the lake, where several people were fishing at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses said the victim, identified as Watkins resident Cameron Mertens, had been fishing from a kayak roughly 75 to 100 yards from the dock before he fell overboard. Members of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office dive team later recovered his body.
