Stolen Kitten Marin Returned to Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud

(KNSI) – Marin the kitten is back home.

According to the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud, the person who took the two-month-old from the shelter left him in a box outside the building, then called staff to tell them what they had done. The humane society says the caller was emotional and apologized over and over.

Marin came back healthy and in great shape, and he’s already been reunited with his foster parent. Shelter staff say they’re happy he’s safe, and they thanked the person for bringing him back and ultimately doing the right thing.

The return came less than 24 hours after a visitor pulled Marin from his kennel, tucked him into a bag and walked out. Volunteers noticed someone handling the kitten and then hurrying out of the cat room, and they found his kennel empty. Security video confirmed what happened. The humane society had promised not to press charges if Marin was returned right away.

The timing made the theft especially worrying. It was Marin’s first day back at the shelter after time in foster care, where he’d been recovering from severe ulcers that wore through the surface of both eyes. His treatment has included pain medication, antibiotics and two kinds of eye drops, one of them a serum made from blood donated by one of the shelter’s dogs. He still needs ongoing care.

Marin won’t go back up for adoption just yet, but the humane society stresses that he’s doing well.
