(KNSI) – Stearns County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation plan to realign an intersection north of Lake Henry to improve safety and sightlines for drivers.

The project will reconstruct the spot where Minnesota Highway 4 meets County Highway 32, about a mile north of Lake Henry and roughly six miles northwest of Paynesville.

Officials say the current angle of the intersection limits sightlines at the stop sign, and the realignment is intended to make crossing the state highway safer. Crews will rebuild the access into a 90-degree intersection, giving drivers stopped on County Highway 32 a clearer view of oncoming traffic before crossing or turning onto Highway 4.

Drivers can expect lane or shoulder closures on Highway 4 during the work, along with changes to local access in the area.

The project carries an estimated cost of $1 million.
