(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University has announced it is ending its long-running study abroad program in Alnwick, England. The program allowed students to live and study at Alnwick Castle and engage with different cultures and international academic experiences.

According to Brandi Yale, associate vice president of University Communications, the decision followed a “careful review” of the university’s long-term enrollment trends and the program’s future sustainability.

In recent years, participation has declined as students gravitate toward more flexible study abroad options aligned with their academic goals. Rising operational costs for a residential international campus, combined with insufficient enrollment, also contributed to the decision.

The program will run through fall 2026. Students can still participate in a final-semester celebration of the program’s traditions, and a special Thanksgiving event will welcome alumni back to celebrate the program’s impact.
