Child Run Over By Lawn Mower Near Upsala Recovering, Sheriff Credits Family

(KNSI) – The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office is crediting family members with helping deliver immediate medical care to a four-year-old child who was run over by a lawn mower in Swanville Township on Friday, August 21st.

Family members treated the child at the scene along with emergency medical personnel, and Sheriff Shawn Larsen singled out their work in announcing the incident, thanking the family and responders for what he called their “coordinated efforts and immediate response” in getting care to the child.

Larsen stated the child is recovering at Children’s Minnesota hospital in Minneapolis.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call at approximately 1:26 p.m. from a private residence off 65th Street, roughly three miles northwest of Upsala.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 33-year-old Swanville man was driving a zero-turn lawn mower with the child riding on the front platform. The child, who is from Lake Orion, Michigan, fell from the platform and was partially run over while the blades were running, and suffered extensive injuries.

The child was flown from the scene by Life Link III helicopter to the hospital. The Swanville First Response Team and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

Larsen said his office’s thoughts and prayers remain with the child and the child’s family. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
